About California Proposition 65

California's Proposition 65 entitles California consumers to special warnings for products that contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm if those products may expose consumers to such chemicals above certain threshold levels.

We want our customers to feel confident in their buying decisions, and the information below is provided to assist you in making your selections.

Lead crystal glasses and tableware

Lead is not a chemical component of all glassware, and most of the glass items we sell do not contain any lead at all. Lead is the distinguishing element in crystal glass, because it makes the glass brilliant, resonant, and heavy. The lead-free Schott Zwiesel crystal glassware sold in our stores has been reformulated so that it contains titanium and zirconium in place of lead. The few leaded crystal glass items we do sell contain lead in trace amounts that comply with all FDA standards.

California requires the following notice:

WARNING: Consuming foods or beverages that have been kept or served in leaded crystal products may expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Ceramic tableware

Ceramic glazes are formulated with many different chemicals. Oxides including lead or cadmium are known to be potentially hazardous, and are therefore regulated by the FDA. Most of the dinnerware we sell does not contain lead or cadmium; the items that do have been tested and comply with all FDA standards.

California requires the following notice:

WARNING: Consuming foods or beverages that have been kept or served in tableware containing lead or cadmium may expose you to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
