Oregon artist John Harden has fused fluted sections of reddish sapele around a walnut burl center, setting off the darker woods with a maple band. Small natural indentations in the wood are filled with semi-precious turquoise ground into a smooth resin to make a permanent filler, producing an exotic effect even more durable than wood.
