Teign Valley Glass: Art Inspired by the Sea

Born in Plymouth, England, aptly named artist Richard Glass apprenticed in a major crystal studio and studied glassmaking at Sunderland University. Later forming his own production studio, he now works in an historic building in Bovey Tracey, Devon that once produced pottery. He has recruited skilled artisans from many of the finest glass studios in Europe to collaborate in his venture. Today he and his expert colleagues at Teign Valley Glass use an eclectic mix of traditional and modern techniques to produce unique, intricate designs that cannot be made by mass manufacturers.

Much of Richard's work captures the essence of their location in the southwest of England. He takes inspiration from the colors and fluidity of the landscape and coastline around the studio, especially the stunning moors and beaches he sees every day. "Like most glassmakers, we want to produce consistently inconsistent work of the highest quality. Our work will evolve and forms and colours will change with each new piece, but our goal is to preserve the fluidity of hot glass in the movement or pattern of every piece."
